When people hear that you play roller derby, most everyone imagines elbows to the face, blood, and broken ankles. While injuries aren't uncommon, I've never had a serious injury in the nearly four years I've been skating roller derby. And my most recent minor injury? A minor ankle sprain--that I got off-skates thanks to a bad combination of wedges, uneven pavement, and an unexpected stranger darting past me.
This sprain was a great reminder that ankles are an important tool for skaters and non-skaters alike.
